This transport value chain analysis was conducted for the Association of the European Airlines (AEA) in the context of the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) project.
First ENVISA examined how the four main industry stakeholders (aerospace manufacturers, ANSPs, aerodrome community, airspace users) contribute to the European economy and society. Simple influence diagrams were used to describe the flow of goods and services, the monetary transfers, safety, security, environment, research and development aspects of particular links in the chain. The market for each stakeholder group was benchmarked according to inventory data and basic market conditions, market structure, market performance and the impact of recent developments.
In the second part of the study ENVISA provided a vision for a sustainable air transport value chain for the future. For this purpose, the strengths and weaknesses of the industry were identified. Through workshops with representatives from each stakeholder group, possible upgrades of the current air transport value chain were examined.
